    Holding In My Heart

    December 12th, 2006 at 15:08 pm » Comments (0)

I am not much of an Oprah Show fan, although certainly an admirer of the many things she has accomplished. One of the few times I did watch, was when she happened to introduce “Gratitudes”

What a wonderful concept to apply to every day living.. being grateful for the good makes it so much easier to deal with the ugly.

Throughout my life, in spite many challenges, not the least is what my oldest friend calls “being a catalyst” it has been my honor to have been helped in many ways by many people.

So, it just seemed right to have a place to explain why I will always hold them in my heart and thank them for always being there for me.

As so often happens sometimes music says it best (that and roses on your birthday) So with special thanks to “TheHenry”
    Here is today’s “music clip”

Peace to you in all seasons

    Designer Resources

    December 11th, 2006 at 11:36 am » Comments (0)

Designer Resources is about the functions that enable a designer to offer the consumer the best possible product.

These functions are often done by the Independent Designers themselves or as a service they “hire”

In some cases, the various functions might be done “by the same person” whether that is the designer or someone hired for the task.

What is important to the success of your product is that SOMEONE does each task and we recognize that they are very separate functions.

Not everyone is good at everything - but as my early telecom mentors taught me, Stare & Compare can be a very useful tool - maybe that’s why I have long been a fan of “web pages that suck.com”

You can learn a lot from studying what is “not good”

Starting Out: What Would I Do Differently Today

    December 9th, 2006 at 09:11 am » Comments (0)

If you frequent group and forums dedicated to Designers, Teachers & Retailrs, hardly a month goes by that someone does not “come on”, post a message about how they are in some way new (New to Designing, Teaching, Show Owning or just new to the list)

Usually these message go on to ask for advice on some subject and FWIW, this is why I read those groups more than anything else the answers and ideas often inspire other ideas, or add to existing plans or otherwise modify my “business plans”.

SO for those just starting out, IF I had it over to do again I wish I had listened YEARS earlier when TheHenry and Dave McCormick and all the great programmers who tried to get me to stop wasting valuable coding time and learn the basics of CSS.

And here is where I plug the book I call my Web BIble,

HTML for the World Wide Web with XHTML & CSS: 5th Ed.

    What Is The Meaning Of….

    December 6th, 2006 at 07:21 am » Comments (0)

Words are so interesting, not just the ones we make up, or as TheHenry would say, Speaking In Wheat - when I am tired I can spit out an entire paragraph with no sentence in “order”

But then there are words we all “think” we know what the other means when they use them.

And there are the wars that can result when really do not.

More interesting there are Abbreviations - acronyms and initialisms and buzzwords - MMOG can those all ever get you in trouble out of context.

Maybe I need to do is ask more often what people mean, and then explain what I think certain words mean and we can have a dialogue instead of a war of words.

    What do you think?

    What is… Blog-A-Venturing

    December 1st, 2006 at 03:40 am » Comments (0)

This is one of those posts that got lost in the great - what do you mean I should have backed up the data base when I put in the upgrade Blog-A-Venture. It was meant to be one of the first, “what is”

Like the word BLOG itself, Blot-A-Venturing is a made up word.

Blog as you probably already know, is contraction of the words, Web & Log

We, Wheat & TheHenry refer to our “road trips” as “Adventures” they can BIG ADVENTURES (this would cover things like our first trip to Disneyworld together) and are call Benture
    Little day trip are Mini-Bentures.

I don’t know why, except it likely started in a moment of silliness, that B got subbed for V, but it did so when as I started the “BLOG” learning process, Henry kept asking (he does nag a lot - he calls it keeping me focused and on track) how the Blog-Benture was going.

Thus the word, Blog A Venture and of course extenstion

Blog-A-Venture is blogging, your or mine

Blog-A-Venturers are those who also Read & Write thier own blog or comment in others. (sorry but blog roll just sounds like a baloney sandwich gone bad.

Blog-A-Mentary, just sort of seemed logical and much less boring than Blog Basics

    HTH (Hope This Helps)
