    The NFL & NeedleArts

    November 26th, 2007 at 15:58 pm » Comments (4)

When you read as many NeedleArts related groups as I do, hardly a week goes by that someone is not looking for instructions related to a “licensed” logo they want to use in an afghan or a pillow or any other number of useful things to decorate the TV room of devoted team fans.

The NFL & MLB have a web site set up JUST to give out preliminary licensing info, including if you don’t have $100,000 to hand over up front for the minimum first year royalties, do not even submit an application.

Here’s the excerpt that proves yet again, if you have to ask the price, you probably can’t afford it

    2. Minimum Requirements. In order for your unsolicited proposal to be considered for the NFLP licensing program, your company MUST: …

    c. Have the ability to pay 100% of minimum royalty guarantee upon execution of a license agreement (typically about $100,000 per year) and be able to generate sales sufficient to meet the minimum royalty guarantee on a yearly basis;

    d. Maintain from a licensed and admitted insurance carrier with a rating not less than A-VIII from an A.M. Best-rated insurance company a Comprehensive Commercial General Liability policy in an amount of Three Million Dollars ($3,000,000.00) per occurrence and Six Million Dollars ($6,000,000.00) in the aggregate; and

Probably explains why there are no “team” needlework patterns & charts “in print”

I doubt we could sell enough before some of Robin Hood Rationalizers had them copied and “Mulitplied” throughout the internet.

    Glass Spinning Wheel

    November 12th, 2007 at 18:27 pm » Comments (0)

Today was one of those days (well actually it is one of those weeks) where I “allow” myself to wander both studio and web strictly in search of things to awe and entertain me - reading to catch up on, whatever I please.

You may remember months ago, the note about making lemonaide
    and of course

    Lemon Spinning Wheel
    -

That was for fun - but this, oh my!

As an admitted sufferer from the Magpie factor (attraction to shiny things), Glass working is also one of my secret (well until now) passions - and we already know I save spinning “just for me” - no business attached.

Andy Paiko’s definitely qualifies for a “Takes My Breath Away”

Andy Paiko - Glass Spinning Wheel
    Andy Paiko’s Glass Spinning Wheel

And to have him combine two of my passions in one sculpture, well let’s just say the rest of the next hour or so was lost in exploring and contemplating the wonders of this glass artisan.

Do visit AndyPaikoGlass - this is only one of the great pix of this functioning sculpture and there is just so much more wonderful stuff - but remember to breath

    It Is The Veteran….

    November 11th, 2007 at 11:00 am » Comments (0)

    It Is The Veteran

It is the VETERAN’s who have honored their country since 1776 with their service.

Today, Veteran’s Day is when we celebrate on this anniversary of the first Armistice day, the end of World War I, whose peace became official on on November 11 at 11am - thus the 11/11/11

They are our grandfathers, our fathers, our brother and uncles, our mothers, our sisters and aunts, and all our family of friends - we have honor this day

    veteransalute.jpg

    May we always

    Remember

    It Is The Veteran

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the courts
who has given us the right to keep and bear arms

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN, who salutes the Flag,
    and serves under the flag.

There are many ways we can honor those who served, but may we never leave our Veteran’s standing alone.

    Charity Challenge-Toys For Tots

According to the Journal of the Continental congress - it was on 10 November 1775 that the United States Marine Corp was created

Resolved, That two Battalions of marines be raised, consisting of one Colonel, two Lieutenant Colonels, two Majors, and other officers as usual in other regiments; and that they consist of an equal number of privates with other battalions; that particular care be taken, that no persons be appointed to office, or enlisted into said Battalions, but such as are good seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve to advantage by sea when required; that they be enlisted and commissioned to serve for and during the present war between Great Britain and the colonies, unless dismissed by order of Congress: that they be distinguished by the names of the first and second battalions of American Marines,…

So, what better day that 10 November 2007, the 232nd Birthday of the US Marine to talk about how their service to our country does not stop at defending us but in their service to those in need.

Toys for Tots began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. The idea came from Bill’s wife, Diane. In the fall of 1947, Diane handcrafted a Raggedy Ann doll and asked Bill to deliver the doll to an organization, which would give it to a needy child at Christmas. When Bill determined that no agency existed, Diane told Bill that he should start one. He did. The 1947 pilot project was so successful that the Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots in 1948 and expanded it into a nationwide campaign.

Over the 59 years of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, Marines have distributed more than 370 million toys to more than 173 million needy children. This charitable endeavor has made U.S. Marines the unchallenged leaders in looking after needy children at Christmas. Over its 16 year life span, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has supplemented local toy collections with more than 70.2 million toys valued at more than $387 million; plus has provided promotion and support materials valued at over $4.7 million.

I challenge each and every one of you to find your nearest local donation point and or for my neighbors to ACT LOCALLy to make this a better holiday season for all the children of our country.
